Eagles Score in Six Different Innings at Topsail in Baseball

The Ashley Screaming Eagles baseball team traveled to Topsail High School tonight to take on the Pirates, and came away with an 8-4 victory.  ECU commit Trent Hansley started for Topsail, but the Ashley squad quickly took control of the game.  Ashley scored in every inning except the 3rd, and Cully Crott kept the Pirate hitters off balance for 6 innings, picking up the win on the mound.  Cully finished with 9 Ks, scattering 6 hits while allowing 2 runs, both in the bottom of the 7th.  Kameron Johnson came on in relief in the 7th, allowing 2 runs on 2 hits, while striking out 1.

Offensively, it was awesome to see the Eagle bats come alive, as we took an 8-0 lead into the last inning.  Seven players collected hits for Ashley:  Cole Slocum (2-4, RBI, 3 runs), Kameron Johnson (1-4, double, RBI), Shane Shepard (2-3, double, RBI, 2 runs), Donovan Francis (2-4, double, RBI), Dakota Perryman (1-3, double, sac fly, 2 RBIs), D.C. Russ (1-3, run, first varsity hit!!), and Jordan Fentress (1-3, double, RBI).

Ashley now has a 4-0 record, and is 2-0 in the Mideastern conference.  We begin our stretch against local teams on Tuesday as we host New Hanover at 6 PM, then go to Hoggard Friday, followed by Laney the next Tuesday!!  Please tell the fellas what a great job they've done so far!!!
