Eagles Defeat Wildcats in Overtime in lacrosse

Two huge faceoff wins late in the game by Ryan Powell keyed a 10-9 come from behind overtime victory over New Hanover HS by the Boys Varsity Lacrosse team last Friday evening. Although Ashley led 5 - 4 at the half, the Screaming Eagles dug themselves a hole in the third quarter with too many penalties, and found themselves behind 8 - 5 going into the 4th. However, the team clawed their way back and, scoring on an extra man situation, the Eagles brought themselves to within one goal with about a minute and a half left in the game. Immediately after, Powell won his first big faceoff giving Ashley the possession it needed. The offense worked the ball to Mike Colella who tied the game with 43 seconds left. Powell again won the ensuing faceoff to begin overtime play. Ashley worked the ball for a good shot, but the Wildcat goalie made a great save. Fortunately, Owen Finnegan alertly intercepted the goalie's attempted exchange with his defenseman and deposited the ball in the cage for the OT win.

Owen Finnegan and Carson Conklin led all scorers with 2 goals and 1 assist each. Colton Blackman and Greg Mayer notched 2 goals apiece. Fletcher Steveson (1G) and Mike Colella (1G;1A) rounded out the scoring.
Zac Tilley had a good game in the nets making 14 saves.
The Team plays next Tues., 4/15 @ 7:15 at home vs. Cape Fear Academy
