Eagles Soccer Falls to Wildcats in Overtime

If you did not come to the game last night, you missed one of the best games played on the Ashley field. Diego Abraham scored just seven minutes into the match on a cross from Ryan Powers. It was back and forth throughout the remainder of the first half with the Eagles creating several good opportunities but just not having the finishing touch to bury the ball into the net. Thirteen minutes into the second half the Wildcats were able to level the score at one. The Cats had picked up their aggressive play but Ryan Keller was up for the task with a couple of very good saves. The Eagles then created an opportunity when they were fouled in the box and awarded a penalty kick. For the second time this year we missed the PK. Moments later aggressive play from Duenis Aviola kept the ball alive in the box for Durwin Hamilton to put in the back of the net. The Eagles had regained the lead with 14 minutes to go. Ten minutes (4 minutes left In regulation)later on a NewHanover corner kick, a New Hanover player out muscled us to put the ball in the net to tie the score at 2. It was now unavoidable: overtime! Two ten minute overtime periods were on the table now to determine a winner. The first went with neither team scoring and with three and a half minutes left in the second overtime the Cats were able to find the game winner. Final score New Hanover 3 Ashley 2. The varsity is now 6-6-2 overall with a 4-2 conference record.

The JV team won by a score of 5-1 with Alex Pearsall having a hat trick (3 goals). The JV is now 10-2 and 5-1 in the conference.
Both teams are in action on Thursday at home against Hoggard.
